"New Topographics" comprises photographs of human-altered environments. For my project, I wanted to additionally portray how nature tries to reclaim constructed environments.

"On My Walk" is a series produced during my Spring 2014 semester in Advanced Projects in Photography. I started this project with the intention of exploiting various levels of biology including animals, plants, and pieces of anatomy from each. Sadly, the color and frequency of my first prints were not reflecting my idea of biology; a very beautiful, complex and yet simple subject that people often overlook. After realizing color was overcomplicating the subject matter I switched to black and white photography to give it the Karl Blossfeldt look so as to express the pure beauty in plants encompassing texture, depth, and natural lighting. Prints were sized to 3x4 to emphasize the maximum appeal to not only humans but other organisms as well.

Whether dead or alive I have photographed different botanical structures and expose their beauty for all to enjoy. Many people present flowers or plants as a sign of affection, loss, congratulations, but in biology they are the essence of life for insects and some species of birds and without them some of our most advanced ecosystems would be lost. Without understanding their importance we might as well continue to overlook their importance to the world rather than just appreciating them as a decorative ornament for homes, funerals, or special occasions.
